Who is this course suitable for?
The MA programme in Human Givens Psychotherapy is designed for anyone in the counselling, psychotherapy, psychiatric, health and welfare professions who wishes to be more effective when treating emotional distress and behavioural problems, including depression, self-harming, anxiety disorders (including PTSD and phobias), anger, addictions, eating disorders, psychosis, relationship problems and chronic pain. Applicants need to hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent
Because of the wide applicability of the human givens approach and the fact that the course deals with fundamental issues that affect all human beings, more and more people from other professions – such as education, social work and business consultancy – are finding it hugely beneficial. To reflect this the university-accredited programme includes modules which the students can tailor to their own area of expertise.
People from a wide range of caring professions have graduated from the existing Diploma course, including: psychiatric nurses, psychiatrists, GPs, clinical psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists, occupational therapists, support workers, childcare managers, teachers, educational psychologists, police counsellors, family court welfare officers, drug project managers, nurses, youth workers, social workers, addiction counsellors, community development consultants, business consultants, life coaches and midwives. (You can read some of their comments here.)
We don't wish to exclude people who are entering the caring/counselling field for the first time. As our courses are presented without jargon, this enables anyone with the appropriate aptitude to progress through the programme to the level appropriate to their needs.
Those wishing to pursue their academic studies and enhance their career prospects still further can complete the programme to full MA Degree level. Students are given guidance and support from MindFields College and Nottingham Trent University at all stages of the programme.
The appeal of the qualifications in Human Givens Psychotherapy is wide and English speaking professionals have already come from America, France, Italy, Malta, Scandinavia, Ireland and South Africa to take the Human Givens Diploma, as well as from Scotland, Northern Ireland, England and Wales. The United Nations recently sent someone on the course.
If you would like further information about the MA programme, or you would like to discuss your options in more detail before applying, please don't hesitate to contact the College Registrar, Kathy Hardy, on 01323 811440.
